Description

A digital painting of Shadow, I redesigned him not long ago and changed his wings to more bird like because I thought he would be to heavy to fly anyway, I wanted to do a painting of him although I have no idea how to. If anyone has any tips, suggestions or critiques please comment! Especially if you can give me advice on how to do the ground! I have no idea what I'm doing.

I've never critiqued anyone before, so here goes: This is wonderfully done. I like the stance, the detail for his skin/scales, claws, and the perspective of the environment. XD One thing that stood out to me was the number of muscles in his back thigh. Looking at any modern day animal shows that they do have a lot of muscles, but only a couple are visible to the naked eye. Depending on how tight his skin or scales are over his body depends on how pronounced his muscles are as well. His head is a bit small for his body, and the combination of a stubby tail and short body give the overall picture that this is a rather small dragon in comparison to other dragons. Though, you made him look big by placing trees nearby in the background. ;D One thing you can do to make him look more "there" is to add a shadow underneath him, depending on where the light source is (which I assume is above him and to the left, making his shadow slightly to the right of his body). Maybe adding a few more small, distant trees around the horizon line would add to the fact that he's in a burned-down forest, or a skeleton woods, or maybe a dead meadow. I agree that adding some rocks or dead, brown shreds of grass would add a more realistic tone to the environment. ^_^ Overall, you drew this very well, especially for not knowing what you are doing. XD I also have problems with my drawings similar to this, so I know how you feel.
